Gymnopilus liquiritiae

Common Name: None

Synonyms:

Substrate: Downed wood

Location: Hardwood Forests

Spore Color: Rusty brown

Gill Color: Orange-yellow

Comments:

I did not get very in depth on this ID, so consider this a working name. This species grows from wood, has a brown-orange cap, no ring on the stem, and stains vinaceous.

Lookalikes:

Gymnopilus penetrans and G. sapineus have yellow tones to the cap. G. luteofolius has reddish purple scales on cap. Gymnopilus luteus is larger and has yellow tones to the cap,a s well as a ring on the upper stalk. Gymnopilus spectabilis (Gymnopilus junonius) is larger, and has a slightly scaly cap.
