Comments: 

This mushroom often looks tattered or old in its appearance, but that is just the way it grows. When you look at the gills, it looks as if they have appeared to rot away or that they were eaten by insects. Every so often you find one without the "damage," but it is fairly uncommon. 

This mushroom has pinkish tones to the cap, and tends to fruit inn fairly large numbers in the fall. The stature is very similar to a Russula, which is where it gets the common and scientific name.
