Common Name: Golden Waxy Cap

Synonyms: Hygrophorus flavescens, Hygrocybe chlorophana

Substrate: Ground

Location: Hardwood or Conifer Forests

Spore Color: White

Gill Color: Light Orange or Yellow

Comments: 

First look for the yellow-orange cap and stem. The cap should be slimy if the specimen is fresh. Found growing on the the forest floor in the spring to the fall. 

Lookalikes:  

Depending on the author, Hygrocybe chlorophana is a synonym. Most differentiate it by lack of orange tones to the cap, whiteish stalk base, and/or a slimy stipe. Hygrocybe persistens has a more pointed cap.
