Common Name: Hard's Stropharia

Synonyms:

Substrate: Ground

Location: Hardwood Forests

Spore Color: Purple-brown

Gill Color: Whiteish becoming brown to purple-brown

Comments: 

The surface of the cap is a light orangeish brown color. It often looks old or faded even when it is fresh. The gills start off white, but soon develop brown to purple-brown tones. Finally, there should be a ring or ring zone on the stem. There are often prominent white rhizomorphs on the base of the stem.

Lookalikes:  

Stropharia hornemanii is similar but has a scaly lower stalk and a slimy cap. Stropharia kaufmanii has a scaly cap. Some species of Agrocybe can also be similar.
