Psathyrella delineata

Common Name: Wrinkled-cap Psathyrella

Synonyms:

Substrate: Wood

Location: Hardwoods

Spore Color: Dark Purplish Brown

Gill Color: Purplish-brown to Black

Comments:

A somewhat hefty mushroom that appears growing from wood. It can usually be an easy ID because of the corrugated cap surface that tends to change colors as the mushroom dries out. This is called a "hygrophanous" cap. It starts off a reddish-brown, especially when young, and turns tannish as it ages. Found in the spring to the fall.

Lookalikes:

Psathyrella rugocephala is almost identical morphologically, but has larger, warted spores.
