Trametes hirsuta

Common Name: Turkey Tail

Synonyms:

Substrate: Downed wood. Logs

Spore Color: White

Comments:

This is one of the Turkey Tail lookalikes, with a zoned pattern of gray, white, and/or brown that is conspicuously hairy or fuzzy. If the cap of the turkey tail is predominately white and/or gray, then this would be a good name to call it. True Turkey Tails tend to have a predominantly brown cap. The pores should be very small, with 3-4 per millimeter.

Lookalikes:

Trametes versicolor has a cap that is predominantly brown. Trametes villosa has larger, angular pores, that often look like teeth. Trametes pubescens lacks starkly contrasting zones of color.
