Comments: 

This mushroom is usually found near the base of living maple trees. It gets is name because the upper surface of the mushroom is ideal for the growth of moss, which almost always accompanies this mushroom.

Lookalikes:  

Trametes gibbosa/elegans often lacks the mossy upper surface.
