Ischnoderma resinosum

Common Name: Resinous Polypore

Synonyms:

Substrate: Downed Logs

Location: Hardwood Forests

Spore Color: White

Pore Color: Whitish

Comments:

One of the first things that you notice about this mushroom is the reddish-brown surface with a white margin, and that the texture is somewhat spongy - unlike most polypores you will find. It is somewhat common in hardwoods in the late fall. It gets its name from amber water droplets that will form on the white undersurface.

Lookalikes:

Ganoderma applanatum, the Artists Conk, can look somewhat similar from afar.
