Common Name: Gelatinous-pored Polypore; Rubber-band Fungus

Synonyms: Polyporus dichrousCaloporus dichrous

Substrate: Wood

Comments:

This mushroom gets its common name because the pore surface has a gelatinous texture and it can be easily removed from the rest of the cap and can stretch without breaking.

The upper surface of this mushroom is a fairly bright white color, while the underside is a reddish-brown color.

Scientific Name: "Gloeoporus" = "a glutinous polypore"; dichrous = "two colors" referring to the two colors of the cap and pore surface.

Lookalikes:

Some varieties of Phlebia can appear similar.
