Mycena sanguinolenta

Common Name: Terrestrial Bleeding Heart Mycena

Synonyms: Blood-foot Mushroom

Substrate: Ground or in Moss

Location: Hardwood or Conifer Forests

Spore Color: White

Gill Color: Whitish

Comments:

A beautiful red mushroom gets even more interesting when you break it open. The stem tends to bleed a red "blood" that will stain your hands and clothing. This mushroom grows on the ground and has red-brown edges to the gills.

Lookalikes:

Mycena haematopus grows on hardwoods. Mycena atkinsoniana can also be found on the ground and has red gill edges, but the gills are yellow.
