Mycena luteopallens

Common Name: Walnut Mycena

Synonyms:

Substrate: Downed Wood

Location: Hardwood Forests

Spore Color: White

Gill Color: Yellow to Pinkish

Time of Year: August - October

Comments:

While potentially appearing to grow from the ground, if you dig down, you should find this mushroom is actually growing from a walnut. The cap and stem are both a very vibrant yellow, but the cap will fade to a whiteish color with age. The only way to get a positive ID without a microscope is to dig up the buried nut it is growing from.
