Rhizomarasmius pyrrhocephalus

Common Name: Hairy Long Stem Marasmius

Synonyms: Marasmius pyrrhocephalus, Marasmius longipes, Marasmius elongatipes

Substrate: Ground Debris

Location: Hardwood Forests

Spore Color: White

Gill Color: Whitish to Yellowish

Comments:

Many Marasmius require the use of a microscope to get an accurate ID, but there are enough features of this mushroom that and ID may be able to be attained without one. First look for the orangish-brown cap that is not heavily pleated or lined. Next look for the dark colored stem that is densely hairy. The stem is often somewhat rooted. Finally, look for a white spore print.

Lookalikes:

Quite a few other species of Marasmius.
