Leucoagaricus cinerascens

Common Name: Dark Gray Leucoagaricus

Synonyms:

Substrate: Ground

Location: Hardwood forests

Spore Color: White

Gill Color: White

Comments:

There may be a better name for this mushroom somewhere, but there are very few good resources for Lepiotas in North America, even fewer for Midwestern species. I do not know of any common field guides that this mushroom appears in.

For its lack of recognition, this mushroom is not all that uncommon around Southern Indiana. Look for the dark gray cap that often cracks with age, as well as free white gills, and a white ring on the stem.
