Lepiota roseotincta

Common Name: None

Synonyms:

Substrate: Ground

Location: Forest

Spore Color: White

Gill Color: White

Comments:

This name is probably not 100% accurate for this species, but it is the best I can find at the moment. There are quite a few reddening Lepiotas in the Eastern US, and there are very few sources of good names for them.

This mushroom is small-medium in stature, and has reddish-brown scales across the cap. Both the cap and the stem stain red fairly easily. Not sure if the gills do. Will have to note that the next time I find it. It will stay with this name until I find a better one for it. Consider this a tentative ID.

Lookalikes:

In Lepiota roseotincta the bruised areas eventually turn a blackish color. In Lepiota flammeatincta the original colors reappear.  Lepiota roseifolia has a color change that is confined to the gills.
