Lactarius psammicola

Common Name: Orange Concentric Milky

Synonyms: Lactarius zonarius

Substrate: Ground

Location: Hardwood Forests, lawns

Spore Color: Yellowish

Gill Color: Orangeish

Milk Color: White; Acrid

Comments:

Several key ID features. Orange cap. Surface has multiple concentric zones. The margin of the cap should be inrolled slightly and the stem is often very short relative to the size of the mushroom. The stem should have potholes. Ive seen it a couple of times growing in the lawn next to an oak tree.

The milk is white and strongly acrid.

Lookalikes:

Lactarius psammicola var. glaber has a smoother cap surface.
