Clitopilus prunulus

Common Name: Sweetbread Mushroom

Synonyms:

Substrate: Ground

Location: Hardwood Forests

Spore Color: Pink

Gill Color: Whitish, then pinkish with age

Comments:

This mushroom is with the Entolomataceae because of the terrestrial growth and pink spores.

It gets its common name because it smells like bread dough to some people. It smells like cucumber to others. Look for the white, velvety cap and the pink spores. The gills should also begin to run down the stem.

Said to be edible, but use caution because there are many similar white mushrooms.

Lookalikes:

Entoloma abortivum is similar.
