Amanita rubescens var. alba

Amanita rubescens var. alba

Common Name: Eastern America White Blusher

This species is essentially a white version of Amanita rubescens. Look for the slightly enlarged base, ring on the stem, and white patches on the cap. All parts of the mushroom will stain red.

Amanita rubescens is very similar, but has brownish tones to the cap. The Amanita bisporigera/A. elliptosperma/A. sp S04 species group will appear similar, but do not bruise red.
