Common Name: Jackson's Slender Caesar
Synonyms: Amanita cesarea
Location: Hardwood forests
Spore Color: White
Gill Color: Orange-yellow to yellow
In your field guides, this mushroom is probably listed as Amanita cesarea, but that is a European species. The cap is usually a bright red to red-orange and has striations. The stem is yellowish with an orange patched pattern going up it.
Amanita banningiana has more orange-yellow tones to the cap and a pale yellow stem without an orange pattern. Amanita arkansana also has more of an orange-brown cap as well, but with white gills. There is also a very similar species that I am calling Amanita jacksonii-ish that lacks the orange patched pattern going up the stem.
