Amanita flavorubens
Common Name: Yellow American Blusher
Synonyms: Amanita flavorubescens
Substrate: Ground
Location: Hardwoods
Gill Color: White
Spore Color: White
Comments:
One of the more common Amanitas, this mushroom is generally smaller and has a yellow cap, yellow patches on the cap, and a yellow around the volva. It is also one of the "blushers," so you can confirm your ID by looking for red staining where the mushroom is damaged, especially near the base.
Lookalikes:
Amanita rubescens is similar, but the cap is not yellow. Amanita flavoconia is also similar, but does not blush red.
Pictures:
It quite often has yellow patches around the volva.
