Amanita arkansana

Common Name: Arkansas Slender Caesar

Synonyms:

Substrate: Ground

Location: Hardwood Forests

Spore Color: White

Gill Color: White to Pale Cream

Comments:

This mushroom is one of the largest Amanitas I know of. It can easily (and quite often) grow to be over a foot in height. Look for a thick, white volva at the base of the mushroom. Orange-brown colorations to the cap, that goes along with a striated margin. Finally, white gills should separate it from its closest lookalkike.

Lookalikes:

Amanita banningiana is very close, but is smaller and has yellowish gills. Amanita jacksonii has a red cap and lacks a striate margin.

From the volva to the partial veil was about a foot. Very impressive size.
