Agrocybe molesta

Common Name: Cracked-cap Agrocybe

Synonyms: Agrocybe dura

Substrate: Ground

Location: Grassy Areas

Spore Color: Dark Brown

Gill Color: Brown

Comments:

A late spring/early summer Agrocybe that appears in grass after rains. The key ID feature is the surface of the cap that becomes conspicuously cracked with age. Aside from that, look for brown spores and often remnants of a ring on the stem.

Edible but not very tasty.

Lookalikes:

Agrocybe praecox is similar but decomposes wood litter.
