Comments:
This mushroom tends to fruit during warm spells in the winter months and early spring. It is usually the first gilled mushroom that is encountered in the year. First look for the habitat (wood). Then look for the brown color with a strongly lined margin to the cap. Often has visible white mycelium at the base.
Lookalikes:
The Deadly Galerina - Galerina marginata is similar, but usually has a more persistent ring on the stem and rusty brown spores.
